The smith machine calf raise is an excellent calf exercise
if you are trying to get a bulky powerful calves muscle.
It is a difficult exercise and needs a lot of strength so
it is advisable to do it as the first exercise on your calf
days. It should always be followed by a combination of standing
and seated calf raises of your choice. The aim of this article

• Start by putting the step under the smith machine
right under the bar.
• Keep the bar at shoulder height after standing on
the step.
• Your heels should not be actually on the step. They
should be projecting beyond the edge so they can move freely
up and down.
• Keeping your knees and your back straight, start
by descending slowly to fully stretch your calves muscle.
Keeping your knees straight will isolate your gastrocnemius

• Inhale then hold your breath as you rise up. Holding
your breath will give you an extra boost of energy. You
should always move slowly and focus on your muscle contraction
to cancel out inertia which will make your workout ineffective.
• After ascending up as high as you can, hold your
top position for 2 to 3 seconds then exhale as you descend
slowly back to initial position.
For this calf exercise you should 3 sets of 15 every workout.
Start with a good amount of weight, for example 50 pounds.
You can easily build on that and you will find that you
can carry really good weights soon. Another tip is to change
the direction of your toes to isolate different parts For
